There are international students all around the major universities in the world and the numbers just keep growing. The UK is the second most preferred study destination for international students, after the US. What is BUTEX?

British Universities Transnational Exchange is a membership organization with an elected executive committee. It works in promoting mobility between universities and colleges in the UK with those overseas. Collaboration is very important to BUTEX, therefore, they aim in facilitating collaboration by creating a regular exchange of information between their members.

What is the BUTEX Scholarship?

BUTEX awards a number of scholarships annually to students who are studying abroad for a semester or a whole academic year. The scholarships are awarded to inbound students enrolled at a BUTEX member institution and outbound students from member institutions.

BUTEX Scholarship Application Guide

Now that you have figured out whether or not you are eligible for the BUTEX scholarship, it is time to go through the application process. The application process to any type of scholarship should not be taken lightly. It is actually the most important part of winning an award, and you should pay special attention to it – especially while applying for the highly competitive scholarships like BUTEX.

So, you basically have two application options. You can either:

  • Design and submit a poster or picture promoting studying abroad to the students at your university or;
  • Answer the following question: “Please provide an example of how and why you think an experience abroad helped to shape both the personal and professional development of alumni from your home or host institution.” Please provide references, links and citations.

How do I submit the poster?

Your poster should be designed to be printed on A4, either landscape or portrait. The application form will require you to submit the following information:

  • First and Last Name
  • Home University
  • Host University
  • Degree Title
  • Status (Incoming/Outgoing Student)
  • BUTEX Institution
  • Placement Duration
  • Email
  • Poster Upload

How do I submit the answer?

To submit the answer, you should provide the same information as mentioned above, except instead of the poster upload, you will be required to write an answer with a 500 maximum word count, to the following question:

“Please provide an example of how and why you think an experience abroad helped to shape both the personal and professional development of alumni from your home or host institution.” Please provide references, links and citations.

What you should keep in mind, however, is that the answer doesn’t have to be an essay or a formal piece of writing. Nevertheless, you should answer the question carefully and include what you think are the most important details.

What if I win the award?

If you win the BUTEX scholarship, you should agree to provide a photograph of yourself as well as a short statement about the benefits of studying abroad. BUTEX might use this for future publicity.

The scholarship amount will be awarded to you as soon as you arrive and register at your host university.

Note that applications for the academic year 2020/2021 are being accepted and the deadline for applications is the 15th of June 2020.
